Members of the Engle lab are committed to outreach activities to inspire the next generation of scientists and educate the local community about how fundamental scientific research improves their lives. Recent activities have included coordinating lab tours, hands-on demonstrations, and mentor-ship opportunities with visiting groups such as ACS Student Affiliates Chapter of Cal State Long Beach, the Bridges Program, and the Partners in Science Program. We also participate in a number of off-campus activities including the Expanding Your Horizons Conference, hosting both science demonstrations and internship workshops at Barrio Logan College Institute, and volunteering with American Chemical Society at the UnidosUS Expo!

For several years running, the Engle lab has sponsored a special award at the Orange County Science and Engineering Fair for teams that did not place in the traditional fair but did demonstrate persistence and dedication through their research in the face of difficulties.

For high school students interested in interning at Scripps or other local institutions, please look at the Scripps Research High School Internship Program and the BIPI Program.
